The sector producer and marketer of flower and ornamental plant is the great affected within the agricultural sector for this crisis COVID-19. Having been excluded from the core activities, closed points of sale, and canceled events as the Holy Week, fairs, cities and towns, religious celebrations ...a large part of the production has had to be destroyed and will continue destroying itself in the next few weeks.

This dramatic fall of the domestic consumption, accompanied by a major fall in the export, in the absence of support measures on the part of the Administration, is going to lead to the failure of a very important part of the productive fabric and business of this sector of the country. The sector values the losses of this campaign in Andalusia at 270 million euros, of which 50 million belong to the sector of the cut flower and 220 the ornamental plant.

But, in addition, the sector of flower and plant in these moments requires the autonomous regional government, national, or community a commitment to support urgent that you would be able to address with relative certainty, the next campaign, whose work should be started at this time. Not to be so, to the production and accumulated losses already this campaign by the destruction of production, must be added a decline in dramatic production to the next of the nurseries to survive, the sector estimated at 75%, with the situation of lack of financial resources that have left the companies and farmers in the sector.

Precisely to avoid this situation, there are countries that are already acting, as the case of the Netherlands, which has announced a package of 600 million euros to help the sector of ornamental horticulture, which aims to cover 70% of the losses suffered by the sector.

In Spain, the Andalusian regional government, as the Government of the nation, have been subject to these aids to the response from Brussels, which makes one fear for the industry, which they, arriving, may come too late. Aid are necessary, but it is also necessary to know soon, so urgent, if you are going to have with them. A recent survey conducted among professionals of the sector arrives at the conclusion that in these moments, not to change the circumstances, 80% of the nurseries in the sector could disappear.

From Asociaflor, and the rest of the associations in the country, grouped all in FEPEX, has returned to ask for ? as we have been doing since the beginning of this crisis - the Ministry of Agriculture and the Secretary of State for Trade, to allow the sale of flower and plants in garden centres, as already happens in other european countries (France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands).
