PICUSAN® is a trap specifically conceived to catch the Red Palm Weevil Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (RPW), the most destructive pest in palm groves worldwide. Its design is adapted to the biology and the behaviour of the RPW: the pyramidal body of the trap has an optimal inclination and roughness to help the insect climbing.
PICUSAN® traps are baited with the RPW aggregation pheromone, which attracts adults (both males and females) to their surroundings; they climb the trap up and finally fall into the inner insect reservoir, where they remained trapped.
PICUSAN® is a ground trap, not burying needed. It must be placed more than 20-m away from palm trees. It can be optionally used as a dry or a water trap (filled with molasses and palm trunk small pieces), to increase catches.
CONTENT
Each PICUSAN® trap contains: 1 insect container (bowl), 1 pyramidal body of the trap, 1 green top, 1 lure container and 4 bridles (to join with bowl and pyramidal body).
ASSEMBLY OF PICUSAN®. Fix the bowl to the pyramidal body of the trap with the bridles. Then repeat the same operation in the opposite side. Introduce in the bowl (optional) 2 l of water and small pieces of palm trunk as they release volatiles which can also attract RPW. Join the green cover at the upper part of pyramidal body of the trap and fix the pheromone container on the centre. The trap is ready to catch RPW.
HOW TO USE PICUSAN®. PICUSAN® is a ground trap, not burying needed. It must be placed more than 20-m away from palm trees. It can be optionally used as a dry or a water trap (filled with molasses and palm trunk small pieces), to increase catches. Place from to 2 to 4 traps per hectare, depending on the pest pressure; if possible, create a “protective belt” with traps around the area to be protected.
Periodically replace the pheromone dispenser following the instructions of manufacturers in order to avoid failures in catches.
