Description:

Cerastium ( Cerastium tomentosum ) is a groundcover plant for ornamental use belonging to the Caryophyllaceae Family.

It is a creeping perennial plant whose stems can reach 30-40 cm in length. The pointed, lanceolate leaves are up to 50 mm long and 20 mm wide and are green in color.

It has an abundant and striking white bloom composed of flowers with 6 mm long sepals that occurs from May to July.

Culture:

It is a species of easy cultivation, very rustic, resisting frosts and droughts.

It grows in areas exposed to full sun, not very demanding on soil. Able to grow on poor calcareous soils. As for irrigation, 1 weekly watering will be enough and does not require fertilizers, although organic fertilizers can be applied during planting.

Trimming favors regrowth and greater flowering.

Multiplication:

They can be propagated by seeds during the spring, and subsequent planting at a rate of 3-4 units/m2. They can also be propagated by cuttings in the fall.

Applications:

Ornamental use, to accompany rockeries, flower beds, as a cover.
