Exports of flowers and plants from the Netherlands grew by 4% in the first quarter of the year, with almost 2.1 billion euros , according to data from the Association of Wholesalers of Flower Nursery Products (VGB) and Floridata.
These data represent a respite for the Dutch sector after seven months of declines and a year 2023 that closed with a fall of 4% . January did not generate good expectations when a 5% decrease in sales was recorded, but finally exports have recovered.
According to the report, flowers have been the product that has driven sales abroad since their value increased by 6%, while that of plants remained at a timid increase of 0.4%. However, while flower volume remained practically the same, plant volume increased by 2%.
The director of the VGB, Matthijs Mesken , noted regarding these figures that “after seven consecutive quarters of decline, we can finally talk about growth. Regarding its reference markets, exports to France contracted by up to 8% and the British market grew by almost 12%.
