These are the winning plants of the Florall Spring 2021 awards

The Belgian fair Florall, which was to be held in person last week, finally had to be canceled due to the pandemic. Of course, the organizers have offered a virtual gallery of exhibitors and wanted to deliver the prizes for the most outstanding novelties in ornamental plants. This event is organized twice a year and offers a complete presentation of the spring and fall collections of floriculture and tree nursery products. In fact, professional producers and various suppliers in the sector present their range to an international audience at Florall.

The gold of these virtual awards went to Herplant BVBA for its new varieties of hybrid boxwood resistant to fungi, which also show a greater tolerance to the moth that affects this species. This collection of four varieties is the result of 10 years of improvements in these varieties and can be used both in pots and in the garden.

The second place went to Agapanthus 'Poppin Purple' from Agapanthuskwekerij which offers a long flowering period and grows faster than other varieties. Reaches approximately 60 cm high and 45 cm wide. The jury highlighted the color of its flowers and that its size allows it to be planted in pots or garden borders.

The podium was closed by Van Vliet New Plants BV's Leucothoe "Fire Star" whose leaves are dark green with broad white edges in summer. In autumn, the young shoots turn a deep purple red, remaining that way all winter. The jury valued this plant for its range of colors, as well as the fact that it requires little maintenance. It is a slow growing variety.
