This tree belonging to the legume family has a rounded and irregular bearing, which makes it one of the most used trees in gardening, in addition to its coloration and rapid growth. It reaches a height of about 5 meters, although in optimal conditions it can reach 12 meters in height with quite branched grayish bark. Its leaves are evergreen, opposite, compound, bipinnate ( leaf doubly divided intoleaflets) and green-glaucous.
Flowering is in yellow glomeruli composed of small, very reduced flowers that are grouped in small yellow balls that appear from January to March at the ends of the branches. They are very scented.
Despite being a fast growing tree, it has a short life of about 10-15 years.
It blooms best in long, hot summer climates.
Culture:
The silver mimosa requires good exposure to the sun and to be protected from the cold, as it does not resist temperatures below 0ºC since they are quite harmful. Irrigation must be moderate, being more abundant during flowering.
Multiplication:
The best way to reproduce this tree is through seed, treating it with heat and soaking it so that it germinates in spring.
Applications:
Tree widely used in alignments of city streets, in parks and gardens. They provide pleasant shade and are the first trees to bloom of the year.
