The fruit is elongated, cylindrical or round, depending on the variety, solid and smooth black in color.
It is eaten grilled, fried, sautéed, battered with egg, au gratin, steamed or baked. It is very versatile and pairs well with tomatoes, onions, garlic, and cheese. The only way eggplant should not be eaten is raw.
