The Netherlands Flower Nursery Products Wholesalers Association (VGB) states that 2020 Dutch flower and plant exports have suffered losses of 4%, ending the year with sales of almost 6 billion euros. The entity represents 80% of the exporting companies of flowers and plants from the Netherlands to 116 countries.

These are the conclusions of the VGB after analyzing the statistics made by the Floridata foundation. Thus, the VGB ensures that the export value of cut flowers was 3,500 million euros, although it was reduced by 8% . The plants, on the other hand, have achieved an export record with a growth of 2%, reaching 2,400 million euros in sales abroad.

The ranking of recipient countries for Dutch products are Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Poland, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Russia, Sweden and Denmark. As can be seen in the following graph, in most of these markets there are decreases.

Losses from cut flowers amount to 300 million euros, as highlighted by the association, makes it difficult for merchants to achieve margins. "Traders show enormous resilience, but in view of the new lockdowns in exporting countries, there are additional uncertainties", explains Matthijs Mesken from VGB. "Especially with the arrival of important days like Valentine's Day and Mother's Day," he adds.
