Opens today in Valencia the  First Forum of the Bio-Plant, which will run until Friday 14 at the Polytechnic University of Valencia.

The Forum, which is co-organized by the College of Engineers Agricultural Technicians of Valencia and Castellón (COITAVC) and Phytoma,  focuses on this first edition inthe Biological Control in Integrated Pest Management in mediterranean crops.

In its inaugural event, to be held today in the Auditorium of the Universitat Politècnica de València, will count with the presence of important personalities and experts in bio-plant: Francisco Rodríguez Mulero, secretary regional Agriculture and Rural Development; Elías Fereres, president of the Royal Academy of Engineering; Alberto San Bautista, director of the Escola Tècnica Superior d'enginyeria Agronòmica i Medi Natural (EAMN) of the BASQUE country; Alejandro Tena, researcher at IVIA and a member of the Scientific-Technical Committee of the Forum, and Regina Monsalve, president of the COITAVC, among others.

The I Forum of Bio-Plant brings in Valencia from the leading experts in the biological control for the management of pests and diseases

During their two days, under the scientific direction of Dr. Alberto Urbaneja, coordinator, Centre of Plant Protection and Biotechnology of the IVIA, and a Scientific-Technical Committee composed of researchers of companies in the sector of bio-and scientists specializing in biological control, the Forum will bring together prestigious experts of solid experience in the development of programs of Integrated Pest Management. Among them,a score of experts at the national level with a great tour in this field, in addition to relevant specialists from Italy and the united States, that will present results from recent successes in this area and the challenges posed by the biological control of pests.

The agenda of the event is divided into two large blocks. In the first of them is will set out a vision of the status of biological control in all of its variants, telescoping past successes and present new challenges facing the bio. By his side, in the second block, will address how biological control may continue to favor the development of sustainable programs of pest management in mediterranean crops of major importance (horticultural crops, fruit trees, citrus and olive).

It is anticipated success of the host and call for the First Forum of Bio-Plant

The forum, which counts with the institutional collaboration of IBMA Spain (International Association of Manufacturers of Biocontrol), the Valencian Institute of Investigaciones Agrarias (IVIA), the Escola Tècnica Superior d'enginyeria Agronòmica i Medi Natural (EAMN-UPV) and the General Council of Colleges of Engineers, Agricultural Technicians from Spain, provides assistance to its first edition, will exceed 300 people.

Alberto Urbaneja  explains that:

"In recent years, biological control has become a key part of any program of pest management. Spain can boast of being one of the countries where the greatest levels of success have been achieved through the adoption of strategies of biological control. The successes of the conservation of natural enemies in citrus, mediterranean, or release an augmentative of natural enemies in horticultural crops in the southeast Spanish, are two examples known worldwide and they illustrate to perfection the acceptance, use and effectiveness of biological control in our country.?

And for her part, Regina Monsalve, president of the COITAVC says:

?Without a doubt, the technologies of bio-provide a fitoprotección effective and innovative for the modern agriculture. This becomes a tool to support producers and to effectively implement the Directive 128/2009/EC on sustainable use of pesticides, which allows you to produce food that is safe and of good quality, minimizing the possible negative impacts both for health and for the environment. And in this scenario, the role of the professionals of agronomy and researchers is vital.?

This also indicates that the Forum is a strong and necessary bet for the future, he adds:

"These investigations biotecnólogicas are fundamental in the field of plant health. We have to be aware of those active ingredients, in what quantity it has to give, when you should have. You can't be using the tun tun and be leaving that footprint in the soil of nitrates, waste. You will need to meet to rajatanla and all of that has to be controlled by an agricultural engineer."

This ambitious initiative, today kicks-off, is born with vocation of continuity to become the first permanent forum specialized in biological control of  Spain andaims to position itself as an international leader in biological control.

Therefore, we can say that The Forum of Bio-Plant is an unmissable event for all professionals dedicated to the health of the crops interested in starting or expanding their knowledge on the management of pests and diseases with biological tools, which we will follow very closely.
